These are small green berries of the Chinese variety of a small ash tree, of the Rotaceae family, bristling with sharp thorns, which grow wild on the slopes of hills. Harvested in autumn, the berries are dried in the sun until they open. The green berries, 4-5 mm long, are hard and covered with thorns. Green Sichuan berries give off tea scents, with very fresh, citrus and strong lime notes; Berries and seeds were once administered in China as a remedy for dysentery.
