Cameroon’s volcanic earth and high humidity give the Penja pepper an exceptional aroma and concentration of essential oils. It is a rare find. Only 18 tons of these peppers are produced per year, which is marginal at the global level.
The peppers are traditionally harvested by hand and the cleaning, drying and sorting methods haven’t changed for generations. It is women who sort the pepper, grain by grain.
